DECEMBERFEST: A SEASON OF BLESSINGS AT LVF

December is not merely the final month on a calendar; it is a grand, glittering finale of the year where the world is dressed in light as it welcomes Jesus, the little Babe in the manger! Jesus’ birth, which means “Yahweh saves”, brings joy to the world!  LVF is delighted to have served 22,191 individuals through its center-based and community-based programs in 2025.

Walking down a neighborhood street in December becomes an immersive gallery experience—every window a golden frame, every lawn a stage for shimmering Nativity sets, Christmas trees, and lights. Beyond the beauty of the colorful buildings, the community comes to life with the joyful, beaming smiles of its children, especially during the LVF Annual Parti-han. Just before the year ends, LVF continues to save, as it conducted an advocacy session for 1,420 students in Bulacan against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children in commemoration of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women and their children.

LVF OSAEC-CSAEM ADVOCACY SESSION

Dec. 09. One thousand, four hundred twenty (1,420) students from Virginia Ramirez Cruz National High School (VRCHHS) at Pandi, Bulacan actively joined the commemoration of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women & Children through an awareness-raising campaign on Online Sexual Abuse & Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) conducted by LVF!

Most of the participants were not familiar with OSAEC, “I do not know what OSAEC is,” one of them asked during the discussion. That started the dialogue. The data and the legal basis were discussed. Ms. Joy discussed protective behaviors to prevent abuse, including a reporting mechanism.

With the realization of the stark realities of online sexual abuse and exploitation, its grave violation of human rights, and the vulnerabilities of young people as a larger consumer/user of different online platforms, the participants shared with the group to “be vigilant, be wary of who we accept as online friends”. One of the girls was moved at the extent of abuse that some children experience, expressing that “malungkot na mayroong nakakaranas ng ganitong klase ng pang-aabuso at sobra-sobra ang impact nito sa mga biktima” (It is sad knowing that there are children, young people out there that fall victims to this kind of abuse, and I cannot imagine its impact that the victim experiences.) Participants shared their perspectives on how children and students can avoid becoming victims of OSAEC. Key strategies included practicing mutual respect and strictly refusing to engage with, respond to, or share obscene images or videos encountered on social media platforms such as Facebook Reels and YouTube. Ms. Ma. Lourdes Valondo, school principal, expressed her profound gratitude to the LVF team, noting the vital role these preventive advocacy sessions play in empowering and protecting their students.

Thank you to VRCNHS school principal Ms. Ma. Lourdes Valondo, faculty, staff & students! Many thanks, too, to the LVF Team led by Sr. Sheila Marie Ducot, FMA, and Sr. Joy Impelido; Social Workers: Ms. Josielyn Hugo, Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo, Ms. Rosea Marie Monsay; LVF Scholars and adult support: Ms. Adelaida Braga. Following the session, the students shared a warm meal of hot soup and bread, thoughtfully prepared by the LVF staff and Vicunians.

REJOICE, A CHILD IS BORN!

Dec. 24. This Christmas, we gather not around perfection, but around a Child laid in a manger—fragile, gentle, and deeply loved. In Him, we recognize our own stories: stories of waiting, of wounds, of longing for light. To our dear Sisters, staff, and lay mission partners: Thank you for being the hands that protect, the hearts that listen, and the presence that remains. Like Mary and Joseph, you have learned to love quietly, to serve faithfully, and to create safe spaces where life can begin again. Your compassion is a living Gospel, especially for those entrusted to our care.

(This Christmas, we want to remind you that you are important, loved, and not alone. Christmas is not just a story of joy and song—it is a story of God choosing to be born in weakness, in silence, and in the midst of darkness. Jesus was born in a manger—not perfect, not luxurious—like some of our experiences. And in that place, He chose to live. So too, today, He decides to be with you through every wound, through every tear, and through every step of your healing.)

May this Christmas remind us that healing is holy, that every step toward wholeness is a miracle, and that light always finds a way through the darkest night. As one family, may we continue to walk together—protecting, restoring, and loving—until every heart knows peace, every voice is heard, and every life is safe. Emmanuel—God is with us. Today, and always. Blessed and grace-filled Christmas to all.

A GIFT OF SONG FOR THE CHILD BORN FOR US

Christmas becomes truly meaningful when it is lived as a gift of self, and this was beautifully witnessed when the Laura Vicuña Girls, accompanied by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, served as the choir at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral during the Christmas Midnight Mass at 6:00 p.m. on May 24, 2025.

Gathered in prayer and song, the girls offered more than melodies—they offered their hearts, time, and youthful generosity to the Child Jesus, born for us and born anew in our hearts. Through sacred music, the celebration was filled with reverence and joy, helping the assembly enter more deeply into the mystery of God who chose to dwell among His people.

Guided by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, the Laura Vicuña Girls experienced this service as a moment of loving accompaniment and joyful responsibility. They were encouraged to place their talents at the service of liturgy, discovering that music can become a form of prayer and a path toward deeper faith. Their harmonious voices reflected not only careful preparation but also hearts shaped by trust, encouragement, and shared prayer. This experience made their Christmas truly special—not centered on receiving, but on offering. Inspired by Blessed Laura Vicuña, the girls learned that the most beautiful gift they could give to Jesus was themselves: voices lifted in praise, lives opened in generosity, and hearts ready to welcome Him.

As their songs filled the Cathedral, they proclaimed a simple yet profound truth of Christmas: Jesus is born for us, so that He may be born in us. In this sacred act of service, the Laura Vicuña Girls lived the joy of Christmas as a celebration of faith, love, and self-giving.

LAURA VICUÑA GIRLS JOIN MARIAN CONCERT FOR THE PARISH’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY

As part of the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Immaculate Conception Parish on December 13, 2025, a Marian Concert was held in honor of Mary Immaculate, gathering different choirs in a spirit of prayer and thanksgiving. Each participating choir rendered one worship song and one Marian song, offering their voices as a tribute to the Blessed Mother. The Laura Vicuña Girls, accompanied by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, joyfully joined the Cathedral Choir, expressing through song their love, gratitude, joy, reverence, and trust in Mary. More than a musical presentation, their participation became a prayerful witness of how young people, when accompanied with love, are guided to offer their talents for God’s glory. Inspired by Blessed Laura Vicuña, the girls sang with simplicity and faith, placing their gifts at the feet of Mary Immaculate, Mother and Help of Christians.

A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH HOPE AT LVF

After participating in the New Year’s Eve Mass at the Cathedral at around 7:00 p.m., the Laura Vicuña Girls returned home with grateful hearts, carrying with them the grace of the Eucharist as they prepared to welcome the New Year. At around 10:00 p.m., they gathered at the chapel for a brief prayer, thanking God for the blessings and challenges of 2025 in a spirit of gratitude and forgiveness. In silence and song, they entrusted to the Lord all that had been, while opening their hearts to 2026 with hope and renewal, asking for grace to grow in faith, love, and responsibility. Following this prayerful pause, the girls joyfully prepared and shared a meal on the roof deck. Simple food, shared laughter, and heartfelt conversations strengthened their sense of community and belonging. As midnight drew near, they waited with excitement and anticipation, welcoming 2026 as they watched the magnificent fireworks light up the sky. Surrounded by joy, prayer, and togetherness, the Laura Vicuña Girls began the New Year with hopeful hearts—ready to embrace new beginnings and God’s unfolding plans.

SAFEGUARDING AS MISSION: A SALESIAN COMMITMENT OF HEALING, JUSTICE, AND HOPE

Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, actively participated in the Gathering on Safeguarding with the theme “Safeguarding: A Shared Mission of Healing, Justice and Hope,” held on December 8–10, 2025, at Maryhill Retreat House, Taytay, Rizal. The gathering brought together women and men religious from different Congregations who are directly engaged in apostolates with children, youth, and women at risk, whether in schools, communities, or parish settings. It became a sacred space of communion, listening, and collective commitment to safeguarding as a Gospel mandate and a concrete expression of consecrated life today.
In this significant ecclesial and social encounter, Sr. Phebe carried with her the lived experience and mission of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, presenting its Child Protection Program as a concrete and effective response to the urgent call to safeguard the vulnerable. She shared the best practices developed and implemented by the Foundation—rooted in prevention, education, accompaniment, and collaboration—highlighting how safeguarding is not merely a policy but a culture of care that transforms institutions and empowers persons. Strong emphasis was given to the Foundation’s advocacies to prevent abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and bullying, especially among children and young people at risk. A powerful highlight of her sharing was the launching and expansion of the “#iamBRAVE Movement” across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This movement, born from the heart of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, was presented as a prophetic initiative that gives voice to the voiceless and restores dignity to survivors. Its impact is seen not only in protection but in empowerment—forming children, youth, and women to become advocates themselves, capable of speaking out, protecting others, and breaking the cycle of silence and fear. The testimonies and outcomes shared revealed how the movement nurtures courage, self-worth, and hope, turning vulnerability into strength and mission. Sr. Phebe’s participation was received in a spirit of communion and discernment, as her sharing resonated with the shared concern of all present for the care and protection of the most vulnerable. In an atmosphere of trust and service, she was asked to assume the role of Head of the Commission on Protection, a responsibility welcomed in humility and entrusted to the help of Mary, Help of Christians. This moment is lived not as a personal acknowledgment but as a grace flowing from the collective journey of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, whose mission continues to be a quiet yet steadfast witness of healing, justice, and hope.

SYM JOURNEY AND NATIONAL YOUTH DAY EXPERIENCE

June 7. Three LVF Staff Members, Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo, Ms. Samantha Lavado, and Ms. Vea Villarena, actively participated in the much-anticipated National Youth Day (NYD) celebration held in Caceres, Naga City, Bicol. This year’s theme is “Youth Empowerment for Nation Building.” It highlights the crucial role young people play in shaping the country’s present and future trajectories with faith, hope, and service. It was a week filled with joy, prayer, service, and unforgettable experiences that strengthened our faith and deepened our connection with one another as young pilgrims of hope. The National Youth Day is a special event celebrated by the Catholic Church to demonstrate its profound love for young people through tangible actions. This celebration brought together thousands of young people from all over the country for a meaningful encounter with Christ, the Church, and fellow believers.

Before the official kick-off of the NYD, the group celebrated the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) on June 8. The SYM itself is a global movement inspired by Saint John Bosco, aiming to form young people into “good Christians and upright citizens” through Salesian spirituality. In the Philippines, SYM is composed of three groups: (1) SYM-FIL – Representing the FMA (Salesian Sisters or Daughters of Mary Help of Christians) Philippine Province; (2) SYM-FIN – Philippine-North; (3) SYM-FIS – Philippine-South.  Delegates were welcomed by their foster families,  visited various parishes, and joined the vibrant procession of the Peñafrancia Parade in Naga. “It was an incredible moment and experience…to walk together with other young Catholics in devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia,” said Ms. Vea. “We also had a time for deep connection. Through formation workshops at Centro, we shared and listened to one another’s stories and reflections. These moments reminded us of the richness of our shared faith and the importance of unity among the youth,” she added.  One of the many significant encounters they had was immersing in the lives of the locals, especially those who were greatly affected by Typhoon Kristy in 2024. It was terrifying, traumatic, and life-threatening. Ms. Samantha shared that the Parish of Sr. Rose of Lima church became the residents’ refuge.  The June 10-14 event welcomed participants from 84 ecclesiastical territories and 22 Catholic youth organizations, according to Fr. Juan Pablo Carpio, archdiocesan catechetical director of the Archdiocese of Caceres. Carpio said that young people are not only the future of the Church and society, but they are the present. Ms. Vea expressed that “this whole journey was a blessing—our first-ever NYD experience. It opened our eyes and hearts to a deeper faith, gave us the chance to serve and connect with others, and allowed us to form new friendships and families.”  “We carry with us memories, lessons, and a renewed spirit to continue living out the SYM mission with joy.” Ms. Jessa added.

LVF WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

SUNDAY CATECHESIS
This month of June, the Catholic Church celebrates significant events: The Ascension of Our Lord and Pentecost Sunday. The Feast of Pentecost occurs fifty days after Easter. It celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the Blessed Mother in the Upper Room in Jerusalem and is often regarded as the birth of the Church. But it was not a new feast. It is deeply rooted in God’s previous covenant with the Israelites at the time of Moses. God’s promise to His people that “He will put My Spirit within you.” Sr. Sarah Grace Robas, FMA, facilitates weekly catechesis for the LVF Child Protection Clinic (CPC) children, young people, and parents every Sunday.

SOLIDARITYSERYE

The LVF Solidarityserye efforts continue to share its blessings with the CPC Communities! Breads, chocolate drinks, and thrift clothes were distributed after the catechesis. Thank you, Purple Oven, for the egg yolks; Breadtalk for the delicious bread; RFM Corp for the chocolate drinks; and the donors of our thrift clothes.

PASWI COP

The Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) continue to give space for social workers through the Circle of Prayer (COP) to be silent in prayer, reflect on the Word of God, and shared how God’s presence provided inner peace, guidance, and a sense of purpose to the lives of the Filipino social workers. Through COP, we talk to Him in prayer and hear from Him through Scripture. This friendship transforms us from the inside out. With God at the center of their lives, the services they provide reflect care, compassion, and love that endures.

The Holy Spirit also produces His fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

As we draw near to God in prayer, study His Word, and obey His commandments, we experience His amazing love and gain an eternal perspective that transcends our temporary problems and struggles. This gives us unwavering hope and confidence to persevere, even in the most challenging times.

As we align our will with His purposes, we gain a profound sense of belonging and destiny.2

This COP is co-hosted by various PASWI local chapters, facilitated by Sr. Marivic Sta. Ana, FMA (PASWI National President) and PASWI E.D Eva Ponce de Leon.

A HEARTY FEBRUARY: LEAVING AND MAKING HEARTPRINTS

Love is in the air this February! At LVF, love goes beyond words—it moves hearts and breaks barriers. As we celebrated Family Day, we witnessed how familial love transcends differences and challenges, strengthening the bonds among its members.

This month has been doubly meaningful, blessed with the encounter with Mother Chiara Cazzuola, FMA, Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA Institute), and a desktop PC and a printer donation turnover by Israel’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Ilan Fluss, and MASHAV. Meanwhile, LVF Social Workers led counseling and self-awareness sessions, fostering personal growth and self-acceptance among those we serve. Thus, enhancing our relationship with our authentic selves. In essence, these moments weave a tapestry of love and compassion, leaving heartprints that linger long after.

Rooted in Don Bosco’s vision of education as a transformative tool for every person and their families, LVF continues its mission of intensifying the promotion of the TVET Centers to various schools in Negros Occidental, Palawan, and Metro Manila. These efforts open opportunities for access to affordable, quality education, especially for those on the margins, because, as Don Bosco said, “Education is a matter of the heart.”

As pilgrims, we journey together, unfolding and embracing God’s divine plan for our lives. Along the way, we leave indelible imprints of love and transformation, touching hearts, uplifting souls, and inspiring lasting change.

FAMILY DAY CELEBRATION AT THE LAURA VICUÑA FOUNDATION: A DAY OF LOVE AND UNITY

The Filipino family is the foundation of the nation. This is the first place where children learn all the basics of life, and the parents are the first teachers.

Feb. 16. Every year, the Laura Vicuña Foundation, Inc. celebrates its Annual Family Day. This year’s theme is “Pamilya Ko, Pag-Asa Ko” (My Family, My Hope), sponsored by LVF’s long-time benefactors, Mr.& Mrs. Precious and Alice Andam, whom the girls fondly call “Mommy & Daddy.”

The girls at LVF, under its healing and recovery program, may have been hurt and scarred by some of their family members, but the anticipation as the gate opens and how their faces lit up with joy seeing their mothers, grandmothers, fathers, and siblings arrive were evident! Michie, 11-year-old Vicunian expressed how happy she was when her mother came despite her busy schedule, she was able to come (kahit busy siya, nagawa niya pa ring bumisita)

While other girls are busy entertaining and talking with their families.  ‘Although my family was unable to come, I am still happy to help in the preparation of  lunch to be shared during mealtimes,’ said Pin.

To some of the girls, the surge of sadness was inevitable even though it was expected that no one from their family would arrive, given the situation and the location of their hometowns. The LVF community ensures that they are not alone and that the Sisters, staff, and Vicunians are their families for now. “I believe that I am not alone. I have God,” said Phine. The movie ‘Mufasa’ reminds us that ‘no one is ever alone in this journey called life. I will find my family again. I will walk with you until then. I will walk with you until the end. It is much easier with a friend…’

In her message, Mommy Alice reiterated that life must continue, moving forward and letting go of the past, “wag magstay sa past.” Pope Francis’ “Spes non confundit! Hope does not disappoint!” explains, we need hope that inspires us to be pilgrims, propels us into action, and prompts us to take the first step.

We reverberate with this year’s Strenna: “Anchored in hope, Pilgrims with Young People”. As a family, we journey and walk together with our girls in the Foundation and with other young people.

LVF MACARASCAS, PALAWAN

SESSION FOR SELF-AWARENESS
February 16. Ma’am Monette, the guidance counselor, met with the center’s students. During the self-awareness session, learners were able to express themselves and gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

After the ball was distributed, the activity started, and each student had the opportunity to describe what they had seen. Expectations were established as the conversation got underway. It all begins with the question of how one should approach setting a goal or achieving something one wants to accomplish. When someone has the energy and mobility to achieve their goals, can communicate effectively, and knows where they are headed, they should take those steps with care and concentration.

The students were handed a ball for the second activity. It starts by asking them how much they are burdened by their struggles, anger, and resentment. They are asked to rate the challenge’s difficulty while keeping their eyes closed. The ball then becomes the target of their resentment, negative thoughts, rage, and bad experiences.

There was also an activity called the “happiness ball,” where students reflected on their childhood memories, specifically the good times they had experienced. During this activity, the students can be found in the field, the hut, the garden, and the dormitory. Some students lay on the ground, while others hugged the trees. After this, time has also been allotted for each student to share their experiences.

Following that exercise, they discussed how to manage their feelings, making a distinction between reacting and responding to them. The students are allowed to talk about their experiences with one another through sharing. The practice concludes with the students writing a love letter to themselves about their accomplishments and gratitude at such a young age.

COUNSELING SESSION

Feb. 17. The students were taken out to talk with the counselor one-on-one. It took place at the Social Works office, which upholds confidentiality. Through counseling, everyone can express their feelings. In addition to reflecting on their circumstances and issues, the students have insights and realizations.

SESSION WITH THE STAFF

February 18. On this day, the staff members gathered for a brief conversation with Ma’am Monette, the counselor. Ma’am Monette discussed situations, experiences, and insights related to the words “hope,” “contribution,” “gratitude,” and “care.”  The community made a card out of letters to show their appreciation for Ma’am Monette. They have developed positive attitudes and gained insight into their emotions, as well as learned practical coping mechanisms and are encouraged to communicate more freely.

February 15. The community members welcomed the visitors by singing a Marian song. The community showcases its talents in performing traditional dances and songs performed by the learners. The learners performed the Tinikling dance, while the staff members performed the Kuratsa dance.

LVF WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

SUNDAY CATECHESIS
The LVF Child Protection Clinic Communities (CPC) gather as a family every Sunday of the week at the Laura Vicuña Center to participate in catechesis and spiritual formation facilitated by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, and Sarah Grace Robas, FMA. This weekly catechesis and spiritual formation strengthen faith and encourages the children, young people, and parents to grow closer to God.

PASWI COP WEDNESDATE PRAYER HABIT

The Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) dedicates the Wednesday of each week to prayer, reflection, and sharing the Word of God, known as the Circle of Prayer (COP), which is co-hosted by various PASWI local chapters throughout the Philippines.

The personal sharing of experiences with God’s work and various testimonies of miracles influenced viewers to renew their relationship with God. It is amazing witnessing their faith transform, heal, and breathe new life into them—such a powerful testimony of God’s love for His beloved and precious creations.

Sr. Marivic, FMA, lift all social workers in prayer: “You have called us to be instruments of Your love, bringing hope and healing to those who are wounded, forgotten, and in need. As we walk alongside those who suffer, grant us hearts that are patient and kind, ready to listen, to serve, and to love without conditions. When we face challenges, may we be strengthened to bear all things, believe in the dignity of every person, and endure with unwavering hope. Remind us that love never fails, for You are Love itself, and You sustain us always. We entrust our mission into Your hands, knowing that every act of kindness, no matter how small, contributes to Your greater plan of redemption and healing. We ask this in Jesus’ name, who is united in love with the Father and the Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.”

SOLIDARITYSERYE

“We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.” In a trend of nonchalance, LVF is doing its best to be responsive to the needs of others. “[Solidarity] is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good, that is, to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all ultimately responsible for one another. (St. John Paul II, On Social Concern [Sollicitudo rei Socialis], no. 38)

LVF OCTOBRAVE: AN INDELIBLE MARK OF LASTING IMPACT

Indelible ink, a substance that leaves a permanent mark, is often associated with elections, signifying a voter’s participation in a democratic process. This also signifies bravery and courage. Moreover, this powerful symbol can extend beyond the ballot box, representing the enduring impact of an organization’s work. This is true for the Laura Vicuña Foundation, Inc. (LVF). For more than thirty-four years, LVF has implemented innovative solutions, advocated for social change, and provided essential services—all these for the protection and empowerment of children and young people. Our Iloilo-wide #iamBRAVE Campaign has reached 7 867 students in the peripheries of the province! We remain committed to uplifting marginalized youth by offering LVF Training Courses in our centers in Palawan, Negros Occidental, and Quezon City. These courses aim to equip young people with skills and knowledge in preparation for their employment so that they have the capacity to alleviate their family situations. Behind these successes is God’s Divine providence and the guidance of Mama Mary and our Salesian saints, Mother Mazzarello, and Don Bosco! With these efforts, we at LVF create a positive and lasting impact. Much like indelible ink, this impact cannot be easily erased or forgotten.

LVF #IAMBRAVE ROADTRIP IN ILOILO

The Passi National High School (PNHS) students have spoken: ‘We commit to be brave and to Speak Up when we experience and witness abuses; we are capable of protecting ourselves! We are brave!’

The LVF #iamBRAVE advocacy campaign reached a total of 7,867 child and youth participants. In Passi National High School alone, LVF has reached 6,000 high school students [divided into 2000 students in 3 sessions] from grades 7 & 8; grades 9 & 10; & grades 11 & 12 together with Sr. Marivic Sta Ana, Sr. Aleth Evangelista, & social workers, Ms. JessaMae Nardo, Angie Mae Villaren; in various schools in Passi City, Iloilo Western Visayas; Man-it Integrated School, Liboo Integrated School, Agdayao Integrated School, Passi National High School-Sablogon Annex, Agdahon Farm School, Mulapula National High School, Salngan National High School, Efraim Santibanez National High School, and Passi National High School.

Along with this advocacy campaign is the unshrouding of the reality that many children and youth are suffering from Filipinos’ culture of silence, the fear and refusal of voicing out of the incidence of abuse to protect the family integrity, shame, and stigma, among many other reasons, especially incest cases.

The article published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) narrated that most of the violence against children cases occur in the form of physical abuse, with 213 recorded in 2018, followed by other acts of abuse with 97 and acts of lasciviousness with 64. Furthermore, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) and the non-government organization Cameleon Association Inc. believe that there are still abused children who are afraid to come forward.

One of the participants emphasized the importance of speaking up, not just for herself but also for others who may feel too afraid or powerless to do so. Another underscored the importance of understanding their rights and reminding them that they are not impotent in the face of threats.

Her message inspired her fellow students to recognize that they can advocate for their and their peers’ safety and well-being. Principals, teachers, and students commented that this advocacy session benefited them. Some of them heard this issue for the first time and were happy because they were already aware and knew what was happening in their surroundings. These sessions are a precursor to LVF’s National Convention, which will gather 2,000 young people.

These forms are essential for ensuring that all participants are properly enrolled and their information is accurately recorded before the training. The Organic Agriculture Production NCII course is designed to equip participants with essential skills in organic farming practices, including crop management, pest control, and sustainable farming techniques. LVF WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

CATECHESIS
Have you ever come across a random Facebook reel in which a man approaches strangers and asks them questions about what leads to their success? Often, their answers follow a common theme: hard work, trust, and faith in God. LVF continues to spread the Word of God to our Child Protection Communities every Sunday of the week, facilitated by Sr. Sarah Grace Robas, FMA. One of catechesis’s primary goals is cultivating a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. By fostering a deep understanding of the Gospel message, catechumens are empowered to live as true followers of Christ. As a cornerstone of faith formation, catechesis is crucial in shaping individuals into mature disciples of Christ. There are literature reviews that relate success to faith in God or any higher being. Religion and spirituality help people in difficult times and provide opportunities for improvement in their livelihoods and lifestyles. In both good times and bad, people seek the power of God. In the face of uncertainty, be it environmental or broadly social, or in times of conflict, people may seek assurance and protection through faith, a source of inspiration. You can overcome any impediment in your path to success if you have faith. Faith is a statement of hope for a brighter future. It is more than a wish. The leap of faith is what faith implies.

SOLIDARITYSERYE

After every formation session, Sr. Sarah, assisted by LVF social workers, distributes biscuits, breads, juices, and sometimes toiletries and eggs to the attendees. On Monday, our staff gives out RFM bread to our ten (10) CPC Communities. At its core, solidarity is about empathy and compassion. We are grateful to our consistent donors who share their blessings with us.

PASWI- COP

In our increasingly noisy world, the power of silence, pause, and prayer is often overlooked. These simple acts can have a profound impact on our individual and collective well-being. That is why the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) is having a weekly Wednesday prayer habit dubbed as Circle of Prayer (COP) via Zoom! This is participated in and co-hosted by different PASWI chapters nationwide. This online prayer transformed into a spiritual lifeline for social workers, providing a daily space for reflection, prayer, and seeking God’s grace.

LVF CELEBRATES THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’s MONTH

Nov. 03. The Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) takes part in the celebration of the 2021 National Children’s Month with this year’s theme: “Sama-samang Itaguyod Ang Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya” LVF has its own calendar of activities for its advocacies on child protection against abuse through its Youth Helping Youth, Follow Your Dream Workshops; #iamGREAT (Girls Reject Exploitation, Abuse & Trafficking); and #iamBRAVE (Boys Reject Abuse, Violence & Exploitation) which will centralize on the SAFE SPACES ACT or the “Bawal Bastos Law” in the Philippines. With these activities, LVF reaches more children, youth, teachers, to increase their awareness on child protection and to encourage every person’s commitment to observe and respect the rights of every child.

LVF VIRTUAL FOLLOW YOUR DREAM WORKSHOP

The Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) in partnership with the Eulogio Rodriguez Integrated School (ERIS) conducted the Follow Your Dream seminar-workshops to six hundred thirty-eight (638) Grades 7 to 12 students from November 9 to December 9, 2021. These seminar-workshops were facilitated by our LVF youth advocates. Sr. Candy Carmen Balverde, FMA, gave the introduction about LVF and gave the good-day talk about Don Bosco’s dream when he was 9 years old and showed a short video on vocation. The students were very inspired about the testimonies given by Hannah and Desiree on how their dreams came to life. The LVF advocates were very skilled in bringing out from the students who were their role models, their strengths and weaknesses, their goals in life and steps on how to reach them. They were able to have some self-reflections on what they are going to do to achieve their dreams. What made these sessions different? There were instances when we had to interact with some special children. “For me, patience is a virtue we should really practice while dealing with them. Treating them as God’s children with worth and dignity as persons are what really matters. Being participative is by getting answers through an interpreter. My interactions with them make me realize something – never underestimate their dreams. Through these seminar workshops they are able to discover and nurture them in order for these dreams to grow.” These experiences were very fulfilling. They were very memorable and worth remembering. This activity also coincided with the celebration of the National Children’s Month.

AWARENESS RAISING SESSION ON SAFE SPACES ACT TO 700 FIRST YEAR COLLEGE STUDENTS OF COLEGIO DE STA. ANA DE VICTORIAS.

Nov. 06, 2021. Promoting safe spaces was a collaborative and universal effort, not just the responsibility of one individual! On its 29th National Children’s Month celebration, the Laura Vicuna Foundation’s children advocate led a virtual awareness session on the SAFE SPACES ACT, publicly known as the “Bawal Bastos Law,” which was signed and became effective in 2019. The purpose of this session was to educate students on the numerous types of harassment that occurred on the streets, public spaces, schools, and workplaces, as well as the consequences for those who were found guilty of violating the law. Catcalling, leering, unwanted touches, sexist and other objectionable remarks directed towards a certain gender were all identified as forms of harassment by the participants. It was also an opportunity for them to express their feelings regarding their experiences and the terrible feelings they got when riding in a crowded bus, jeepney, or even walking along dark streets. Some of them offered advice on how to report such situations, and one even provided the phone number for their women’s desk officer in the event that they come across one or know someone who is being abused. It was also highlighted in the session that the school management has an important part in promoting a safe space for all- to teachers and students alike. At the end of the session, each participant made their own Safe Shields that would keep themselves safe. Most importantly, they enunciated the value of respect for each other! The children advocates challenged the participants into becoming a ‘safe space’ for all.

LVF CHILDREN ADVOCATES JOINS THE NATIONWIDE LEARNING AND CONSULTATION SESSIONS

Three children advocates, Ms. Shane, Ms. Hannah and Ms. Vicky, from Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) actively participated during the 4 day sessions (every Saturday of November) on the Nationwide Learning and Consultation Sessions which aims to consult children and youth in an advocacy plan in addressing violence against children in response to the invitation of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC). The three children advocate enthusiastically engaged themselves in the conversation by sharing their views and opinions regarding the issues and challenges faced by children especially in this time of the pandemic. They were also able to identify recommendations on how to effectively protect children from threats from abuses online and offline! They suggested that there should be a collective effort of the government to strengthen the implementation of laws that protect children; the private sectors to conduct awareness raising sessions in the communities and schools; and most especially, the engagement of parents and guardians in the implementation of these laws and becoming partners in these efforts so that each will become a protector of every child and an advocate in promoting child rights and ensuring that each one lives in a safe environment. This activity was spearheaded by the CWC in partnership with the Juvenile Justice Welfare Council and Consuelo Foundation as part of its celebration of the National Children’s Month.

LVF’S PAST PUPILS HOMECOMING 2021

On 21 November 2021, on the occasion of the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Annual LVF Past Pupils Homecoming was held virtually via google meet, organized by the LVF Past Pupils of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians-Fil Province with the theme, “Hope is My Home: Nananahan sa Pag-asa”. LVF Homecoming was attended by more than 100 past pupils coming from different provinces in the Philippines in Laguna, Bulacan, Pangasinan, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Palawan, National Capital Region as well as outside of the Philippines like Malaysia and the United States.  The atmosphere was one of a family, simple, homey and being at ease with one another.

The LVF Past Pupils are always looking forward to come home to LVF each year on the Solemnity of Christ the King. The solemn celebration of the Holy Mass was presided by Fr. Roland Tuazon, CM.  In his homily he mentioned that our coming home to LVF is a way of saying thank you.  It is being in our home and reminiscing our experiences which are very important.  God wants us to have a good life, to live peacefully and with dignity.  Through the foundation, we experience His graciousness and His love to us.  It is our social commitment to share His blessings in whatever capacity we have and to establish His kingdom here on earth.  We should also stand for the truth and let God reign in one’s heart. He also challenged each one to be an instrument of God’s overflowing grace and be of blessing to one another.

Sr. Ma. Victoria P. Sta. Ana, FMA, LVF’s Managing Director, thanked the Past Pupils for what they do to help their families and those around them this Pandemic.  She gave an input on Pope Francis’ letter to the youth – Christus Vivit which was thought provoking.   She quoted Pope Francis “You are the now of God, You must bear fruit (96)… with commitment and generosity.  Being keys of the future young people should work for a better world.  Be transformers, protagonists, leaders of transformation and not be bystanders but be protagonists of the revolution of charity and service, fight also for the common good.  God should be in our hearts and be instruments of peace, justice and truth.”

The activity was graced with very personal testimonies of the four success stories of LVF Past Vicuñans, recalling their God- experiences and learning’s on being prayerful, generous in helping those in need which they are now applying in their daily lives! One of them shared that it was Mary who brought her to the care of the Sisters and she found not only a Technical Vocational School but a home which trained her to be creative and smart!  Another said that LVF is her home and family who prepared her for life especially to be independent as she was orphaned early in life. Another shared that LVF trained them to be generous and  to hold on to God and to stand up again after facing adversaries. Mr. Belarmino, LVF Past Pupil said that one of the Vicuñans’ true mark  is that they are good influence to their fellow young people via the Preventive System’s way and they know how to appreciate and value the blessings they received  especially the values formation and educational assistance extended to them to uplift their lives and their families.

The LVF Past Pupils are relatively young and trying to build their families.  Yet they took time to  form their organizing team to become responsible for the different committees: the flow of the program, the invitations, the Eucharistic Celebration, the games and the prizes.  They were also the ones who hosted the event, pooled their resources for the prizes and shared their unforgettable moments with LVF during the sharing’s.  It was a beautiful experience for us to see these Vicuñans sharing their time, efforts and resources to make this homecoming a family  event and a reality. Indeed, this is a world which we create together.

MAID: A CASE ANALYSIS

The LVF girls were given session on case analysis about Alex’s life in the mini movie series “MAID” which prompted the girls to critically analyse and identify social issues presented in the said movie series. It revolved around Alex, the protagonist, a solo parent who was a victim-survivor of domestic violence struggling to work as a maid with meager income to survive and barely able to support her daughter. They were also able to identify the problem in the social environment that the character was in. It provoked them to ask questions they did not understand and were enlightened as the session went on. In the end, they saw that the value of education and the consequences of decisions that were off the mark. The session was facilitated by Ms. Rosea Marie Monsay, LVF social worker, with Sr. Teresita  Mislang, FMA.

LVF @THE SYNOD 2021-2023 FOR A SYNODAL CHURCH

The LVF Educating Community was an active participant in the Synod 2021-2023 for a Synodal Church in the Diocese of Cubao with Sr. Analyn Guerrero, FMA  as the coordinator. A series of meetings with the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Synod Consultation in-charge were done to prepare for this momentous event.  The Educating community was given two inputs/webinar to deepen and understand what SYNOD and SYNODALITY are the WHY our Pope Francis initiated this Synod in the Church and our individual as well as communal responsibility in this Synod. Finally, on November 12, 2021 from 7:45 to 9:45 PM, together with some lay people and Redemptorist Seminarians the Synod consultation was held via online.  All agreed that that evening was not an ordinary one, ‘we have just made history’ and we felt so blessed to have been chosen by God to have an active role in this great process of renewal in our Catholic Church.  It gave us double joy to realize that given the reality of our apostolate, our Church indeed is an INCLUSIVE CHURCH, seeking the voice of the least, last and the lost.  We have felt heard, valued and given importance.  Thank you, Lord, for this wonderful gift.

MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

The Laura Vicuna Foundation joined the FIAT’s webinar Finale on their Mental Wellness Series through the invitation of Ms. Vicky Cuisia. LVF was able to join its two (2) sessions Spiritual Rx: A Forum for The Youth and Families (Oct. 25) and Healing, Hoping and Loving: A Panel Discussion on Mental health and the Home (Nov. 29). After joining the sessions, Jessabelle had this to say: “We cannot heal alone and by ourselves. At the back of my mind, I was reminded of the times when I thought I could handle myself on my own but then I realize that I can’t because the truth is I struggle. It made me realize and be reminded again of the importance of community support: the support of the family that you belong in, loved ones or anyone that’s close to you.”

LVF SOLIDARITYserye

In the midst of this global health crisis, it is comforting to know that we do not fight this battle alone, but it strengthens our support and draws us closer to each other. Now is the time to act, to feel discomfort of the difficult reality that surrounds us. And in this discomfort that the LVF Solidarityserye continues to reach out for its Child Protection Communities in Taguig, Marikina, Cavite, Pinagkaisahan, Bacood, Botocan, PH-Sta. Mesa, Judge Jimenez and Hillcrest by sharing with them 1,387 packs of bread (3 pcs per packs), 210 slices of puto and pudding baked by the girls. Our deepest gratitude to Ms. Marie C. Young for the donations of Selecta Milk which the kids really enjoyed. Indeed, solidarity allows us to overcome the adversities that present themselves throughout life.

LVF ONLINE KATESISMO!

“Salamat po sa mga Sisters at Vicuñans dahil po sa inyo nakaka=attend po kami ng Misa tuwing Linggo.” One of the child participant said this during one of the LVF’s awareness sessions. With this, LVF is much more ardent to continue its virtual Catechesis. This month of November, the weekly Sunday catechesis has reached nine hundred eighty-three (983) children, youth and families. Facilitated by Sr. Teresita Mislang, FMA, she joined the community in celebrating the Eucharistic Celebration.

ADVENT @LVF

The LVF educating community had a prayerful journey this advent season as together we trod the path pointed out to us by the Church in this four week preparation for Christmas – the birth of our Lord. We lighted the candles of hope, peace, joy and finally the love in a most fervent manner every Saturday evening in our small, cozy Chapel.  As we lit each candle we were urged to reflect and put into practice the virtue assigned in that particular week that surely gave more meaning to our Advent Season and preparation for Christmas.
