LVF MAY RAYS ENEWS

Welcome to the May edition of LVF May Rays! This Marian month, the Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) basked in the warmth of community; under the maternal gaze of Mama Mary, it deepened its spiritual and institutional roots and expanded its reach in protecting and empowering children and families. From national advocacy stages to local parish celebrations, here is how our faith, service, and mission shined brightly this May. This month, LVF actively participated in the 9th Philippine National Children’s Conference. The event provided a powerful platform for young voices nationwide to discuss pressing issues, collaborate on solutions, and advocate for a safer, more protective environment both offline and online. Drawing inspiration from St. Mary Mazzarello and the pioneering Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in Mornese, the birthplace of our co-foundress. LVF spent time reflecting on the essence of the “Mornese experience.” The LVF Palawan organized a micro-credit seminar paired with a critical Gender and Development (GAD) orientation. The sessions equipped community members—particularly women—with financial literacy tools for small businesses while promoting gender equality, shared leadership, and safety at home. Every day is grace. Thank you to all our partners, donors, social workers, and volunteers who make these ‘rays’ of hope possible every single day. Together, we continue to keep the fire burning for the young!

LVF JOINS THE 9TH PHILIPPINE NATIONAL CHILDREN’S CONFERENCE 2026.
May 19–21. The Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) proudly joined the 9th Philippine National Children’s Conference (PNCC) organized by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) held at Bellevue Manila. “Representing the foundation were LVF child advocate Ms. Quinn from our Child Protection Clinic Community-Hillcrest together with Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo, social worker, as adult support. The three-day event gathered children, youth leaders, advocates, and partner organizations from different parts of the country to promote children’s rights, participation, and empowerment. One of the highlights of the conference was the Intergenerational Dialogue, which served as a meaningful space for open discussions between children and duty bearers. Through this activity, children were able to freely express issues that need prioritization and recommendations rooted in their own experiences, perspectives, and observations in their communities. The duty bearers also provided their responses and commitments in support of children’s advocacies. Adding color and excitement to the event, LVF also participated in the booth exhibition where children joyfully engaged in drawing, coloring, and self-expression activities. LVF also showcased its advocacy programs, initiatives, and educational materials focused on protecting, supporting, and empowering children in vulnerable communities. The activity created a fun and meaningful atmosphere that allowed the foundation to connect with participants while promoting its mission for children’s welfare. Aside from the learning sessions, the conference became a meaningful and memorable experience where children from various regions of the Philippines built friendships, gained inspiration, and shared common hopes for the future. LVF child advocate Quinn expressed the following: “Ang karanasang ito ay nagsilbing inspirasyon upang mas lalo akong maging responsable at mas maunawaan ang aking mga karapatan bilang kabataan. Ipinakita rin nito ang kahalagahan ng aming boses sa lipunan.” (This experience inspired me to be more responsible and to better understand my rights as a youth. It also showed me the importance of our voice in society.) She expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the program, as it further broadened her understanding of her rights as a child. She also shared that she gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of youth participation in social issues and their vital role in shaping a better future. She was greatly inspired by the fellow youth and speakers she encountered, who shared their experiences and advocacies.

LVF FORMS PART OF THE NATIONAL AWARD COMMITTEE

May 28. The Council for the Welfare of Children (CW) invited LVF as a member to the National Award Committee (NAC) meeting. The NAC is the national structure that manages and provides direction to the implementation of the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) per Executive Order 184 series of 1999. The PACFMC is the response of the Philippine government’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). And ensuring that Local Government Units (LGUs) are child-friendly. The award is conferred to deserving local government units in recognition of their vital role in the sustained promotion of children’s rights as well as in ensuring child-friendly local governance. The meeting discussed the results and recommendations of the PACFMC Program Review Evaluation Workshop conducted on 11-14 May 2026. Ms. Josielyn Hugo, LVF social worker, joined the said meeting.

SALESIAN FORMATION 2026: FIRE FOR THE YOUNG

May 28–29. The LVF staff, Ms. Felina Narvaez, Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo, and Ms. Arnie Jane Bedonia, actively participated during the Salesian Formation held at Mary Help of Christians School in Pampanga on May 28–29, 2026. This Salesianity Formation was facilitated by Sr. Pinky Garza, FMA. The two-day formation centered on the theme “Fire for the Young” and provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Salesian mission and renew their commitment as educators of the young. The formation began with a meaningful reflection in which Sr. Pinky challenged the participants to contemplate three essential questions: Where does the fire come from? What keeps it burning? What puts it out? These questions invited the Salesian educators to examine the source of their passion for serving the young, the factors that sustain their dedication, and the challenges that may diminish their seal for the mission. Throughout the formation, Sr. Pinky guided the participants through various sessions that highlighted the life and mission of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello. She discussed Don Bosco’s vision of forming “Good Christians and Honest Citizens” and emphasized the importance of practicing Salesian assistance through loving presence and accompaniment. The participants also reflected on the life and heart of St. Mary Mazzarello, particularly her dedication to the young and the wisdom found in her letters, which continue to inspire Salesian educators today. Other sessions focused on the realities and challenges faced by young people in the present generation, the practical application of Salesian education, the importance of fostering a family spirit within Salesian communities, and the significance of the Salesian Oratory Model as a home, parish, school, and playground. Sr. Pinky further emphasized that the corridor is one of the most important places in a Salesian school and houses, as it provides opportunities for meaningful encounters and authentic relationships with the young. The formation also explored the foundations of Salesian spirituality, challenging participants to embody its three essential marks: joy, gentleness, and presence. In discussing the identity of a Salesian educator, Sr. Pinky encouraged everyone to continually grow in their vocation and commitment to the mission entrusted to them. The formation concluded with a reflection on Circular Letter 27 of St. Mary Mazzarello, carrying the inspiring message, “Now is the Time to Rekindle the Fire.” The experience served as a powerful reminder for all participants to renew their passion for the Salesian mission and to continue accompanying the young with love, hope, and dedication, following the examples of Don Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello.

A MOTHERLY HEART FORMED IN MORNESE

May 13. On this beautiful feast, we honor the woman whose “yes” built a home of joy and service alongside St. John Bosco. The Holy Spirit formed a motherly heart in her. Prudent and wise, she educated the girls with preventive love. The small workshop opened, and—as also happened to Don Bosco—the Lord sent her the first orphans to welcome.

THE FEAST OF FATIMA: FLOWERS AND FAITH

May 13. It is a beautiful holy coincidence that the Feast of Mother Mazzarello coincides with the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13th. In Salesian houses, this day is a vibrant double celebration. The girls in Mary’s care loved to honor the Blessed Mother, whom Mary always insisted was the true superior and mother of their community. During these celebrations, the workshop and courtyard would fill with color as the girls offered the following: The girls, together with the staff, prayed a special rosary offered to Fatima. Woven together not just with beads, but also with the daily prayers, sacrifices, and small acts of kindness the girls gathered throughout the week. After the rosary, the community offered paper flowers made by the girls.

BLESSINGS ON YOUR NEW MISSION, SR. PHEBE

With grateful hearts, we thank God for your loving presence and service in our community. Though quiet and simple in your ways, your life has spoken deeply to us. Your silent dedication, thoughtful care, gentle spirit, and humble generosity have touched many lives more than words can express. You have shown us that true leadership is not only seen in great accomplishments but also in the daily acts of compassion, sacrifice, patience, and understanding. In your calm and gentle way, you became a source of strength, peace, and encouragement to the community entrusted to your care. As you begin your new mission and assignment as animator of another community, we thank you for all the goodness, kindness, and love you have shared with us. Though we will surely miss your presence, we rejoice knowing that another community will now be blessed by your maternal care and selfless service. May Mary Help of Christians accompany you always, and may the Lord continue to bless your mission with joy, wisdom, strength, and good health. We entrust you to God in prayer: “Lord, we thank You for the gift of Sr. Phebe. Bless her as she begins this new chapter of mission and service. Continue to fill her heart with Your peace, gentleness, and love. Give her strength when work becomes difficult, joy in serving, and the quiet assurance that You walk with her always. May Mary Help of Christians protect and guide her wherever she goes. Amen.” With love, gratitude, and prayers, Sr. Marivic, Sr. Sheila, Sr. Sarah Grace, Sr. Goretti, staff, and Vicuñans of LVF Cubao.

CARING FOR CREATION: LVF LAUDATO SI INITIATIVE

May 19. Taguig (April 26); Marikina (May 3); Cavite (May 18): Caring for Creation starts with caring for each other. Our LVF social workers are sharing love through sharing bread, packs of egg yolks, marshmallows, and kettle corn! Every act of sharing is a step toward a more compassionate world. LVF translates the mission of Care for Creation into tangible kindness.

LAURA VICUÑA FOUNDATION JOINS FLORES DE MAYO CELEBRATION

May 28, 2026 – The Laura Vicuña Foundation joyfully joined the Flores de Mayo celebration of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish, held at the Arayat Market in Zambales. The celebration was highlighted by the Holy Mass presided over by the parish priest, Fr. Steve Zabala. In his homily, Fr. Zabala emphasized the beauty and significance of Flores de Mayo, explaining that the flowers offered to the Blessed Mother symbolize the offering of our own lives to God, following the example of Mary’s wholehearted love, faith, and obedience throughout her life. The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a Marian procession. Despite an unexpected heavy downpour that shortened the route, the spirit of prayer and Marian devotion remained undiminished as the faithful proceeded to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church for the traditional flower offering. The girls of the Laura Vicuña Foundation actively participated in the festivities as Sagalas of May. They also took on special roles as Reyna de las Patriarchas and Divina Pastora, adding grace and meaning to the celebration as they honored the Blessed Virgin Mary together with the parish community. The event was a beautiful expression of Marian devotion, faith, and community participation, inspiring everyone to imitate Mary’s generosity in offering her life to God.

MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION

May 10. The Sunday Catechesis transformed into a vibrant celebration of motherhood, faith, and community spirit this Mother’s Day. Bringing together the children and parents of the CPC (Community Pastoral Care) family, the day was a beautiful reminder of the power of togetherness and targeted generosity.

TRAINING INDUCTION PROGRAM
May 08. All sisters and staff went to Barangay Caramay, Roxas, Palawan, for the Training Induction Program (TIP) on Organic Agriculture NCII by the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The training greatly helped the organization because the members gained more knowledge and skills. This helped them improve their work and services. For the participants of the TIP, who are mostly farmers, the training was especially useful. With the help of TESDA and PCA, many farmers learned the proper ways to do farming. This new knowledge will help them increase their crop yield and improve their livelihood.  The program started at 10:00 AM. Sr. Rosalia A. Panganiban, FMA – Program Head, gave the welcoming remarks. This was followed by messages from Hon. Apolinario M. Dangan, Sr., Barangay Captain; Ma’am Elvie A. Gonzaga, President of the Caramay Coconut Farmers Organization; Sir Arlo G. Solano, Acting Division Chief; and Director John D. Simborios, Provincial Director.

LVF CUBAO, QC WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

SUNDAY CATECHESIS
Every Sunday, the parents, young people, and children beam with excitement as our Child Protection Clinic (CPC) truck arrives. Through the LVF-CPC community outreach program, we conduct regular catechism lessons for children and parents. Each session begins with a prayer, followed by stories that teach faith, values, and kindness. Guided by Sr. Sarah Grace Robas, FMA, and our social workers—these engaging, age-appropriate lessons help children understand God’s love in ways they can easily relate to.

SOLIDARITYSERYE

The LVF Sunday formation concludes with a food distribution. Thanks to the unwavering support of our donors, we provide bread, sweets, eggs, and occasionally milk and kettle corn (popcorn). To many of these children, this is the most significant meal of their week. Whether they enjoy it immediately or save it to share with family, the impact is clear. We are committed to a holistic approach: nourishing the soul with faith while sustaining the body through the generosity of our community.

PASWI-COP

The PASWI COP (Philippine Association of Social Workers Inc., Circle of Prayer) is a profound weekly initiative that bridges the gap between professional social work and spiritual fortitude. Organized by the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI), hosted by Sr. Ma. Victoria P. Sta. Ana, FMA (PASWI National President), and Mrs. Eva Ponce de Leon (PASWI Executive Director), with co-hosts from different PASWI local chapters, co-host the COP, which serves as a sanctuary for social workers who spend their days navigating the heavy emotional and systemic challenges of human suffering. In the midst of the complex challenges of the social work profession, the PASWI Circle of Prayer stands as a beacon of hope and a source of collective strength. It is more than just a gathering; it is a sacred space where social workers transition from ‘doing’ to ‘being’—resting in the presence of the Almighty. As we pray in unity, we ask for the wisdom to see the dignity in every person we serve, the courage to speak for those without a voice, and the grace to keep our hearts soft even in the face of hardship. In this circle, we find the spiritual nourishment necessary to continue our journey toward a more humane and just society. We don’t just work together; we pray together, knowing that through Him, all things are made new.

LVF OSAEC-CSAEM ADVOCACY SESSION

Dec. 09. One thousand, four hundred twenty (1,420) students from Virginia Ramirez Cruz National High School (VRCHHS) at Pandi, Bulacan actively joined the commemoration of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women & Children through an awareness-raising campaign on Online Sexual Abuse & Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) conducted by LVF!

Most of the participants were not familiar with OSAEC, “I do not know what OSAEC is,” one of them asked during the discussion. That started the dialogue. The data and the legal basis were discussed. Ms. Joy discussed protective behaviors to prevent abuse, including a reporting mechanism.

With the realization of the stark realities of online sexual abuse and exploitation, its grave violation of human rights, and the vulnerabilities of young people as a larger consumer/user of different online platforms, the participants shared with the group to “be vigilant, be wary of who we accept as online friends”. One of the girls was moved at the extent of abuse that some children experience, expressing that “malungkot na mayroong nakakaranas ng ganitong klase ng pang-aabuso at sobra-sobra ang impact nito sa mga biktima” (It is sad knowing that there are children, young people out there that fall victims to this kind of abuse, and I cannot imagine its impact that the victim experiences.) Participants shared their perspectives on how children and students can avoid becoming victims of OSAEC. Key strategies included practicing mutual respect and strictly refusing to engage with, respond to, or share obscene images or videos encountered on social media platforms such as Facebook Reels and YouTube. Ms. Ma. Lourdes Valondo, school principal, expressed her profound gratitude to the LVF team, noting the vital role these preventive advocacy sessions play in empowering and protecting their students.

Thank you to VRCNHS school principal Ms. Ma. Lourdes Valondo, faculty, staff & students! Many thanks, too, to the LVF Team led by Sr. Sheila Marie Ducot, FMA, and Sr. Joy Impelido; Social Workers: Ms. Josielyn Hugo, Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo, Ms. Rosea Marie Monsay; LVF Scholars and adult support: Ms. Adelaida Braga. Following the session, the students shared a warm meal of hot soup and bread, thoughtfully prepared by the LVF staff and Vicunians.

REJOICE, A CHILD IS BORN!

Dec. 24. This Christmas, we gather not around perfection, but around a Child laid in a manger—fragile, gentle, and deeply loved. In Him, we recognize our own stories: stories of waiting, of wounds, of longing for light. To our dear Sisters, staff, and lay mission partners: Thank you for being the hands that protect, the hearts that listen, and the presence that remains. Like Mary and Joseph, you have learned to love quietly, to serve faithfully, and to create safe spaces where life can begin again. Your compassion is a living Gospel, especially for those entrusted to our care.

(This Christmas, we want to remind you that you are important, loved, and not alone. Christmas is not just a story of joy and song—it is a story of God choosing to be born in weakness, in silence, and in the midst of darkness. Jesus was born in a manger—not perfect, not luxurious—like some of our experiences. And in that place, He chose to live. So too, today, He decides to be with you through every wound, through every tear, and through every step of your healing.)

May this Christmas remind us that healing is holy, that every step toward wholeness is a miracle, and that light always finds a way through the darkest night. As one family, may we continue to walk together—protecting, restoring, and loving—until every heart knows peace, every voice is heard, and every life is safe. Emmanuel—God is with us. Today, and always. Blessed and grace-filled Christmas to all.

A GIFT OF SONG FOR THE CHILD BORN FOR US

Christmas becomes truly meaningful when it is lived as a gift of self, and this was beautifully witnessed when the Laura Vicuña Girls, accompanied by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, served as the choir at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral during the Christmas Midnight Mass at 6:00 p.m. on May 24, 2025.

Gathered in prayer and song, the girls offered more than melodies—they offered their hearts, time, and youthful generosity to the Child Jesus, born for us and born anew in our hearts. Through sacred music, the celebration was filled with reverence and joy, helping the assembly enter more deeply into the mystery of God who chose to dwell among His people.

Guided by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, the Laura Vicuña Girls experienced this service as a moment of loving accompaniment and joyful responsibility. They were encouraged to place their talents at the service of liturgy, discovering that music can become a form of prayer and a path toward deeper faith. Their harmonious voices reflected not only careful preparation but also hearts shaped by trust, encouragement, and shared prayer. This experience made their Christmas truly special—not centered on receiving, but on offering. Inspired by Blessed Laura Vicuña, the girls learned that the most beautiful gift they could give to Jesus was themselves: voices lifted in praise, lives opened in generosity, and hearts ready to welcome Him.

As their songs filled the Cathedral, they proclaimed a simple yet profound truth of Christmas: Jesus is born for us, so that He may be born in us. In this sacred act of service, the Laura Vicuña Girls lived the joy of Christmas as a celebration of faith, love, and self-giving.

LAURA VICUÑA GIRLS JOIN MARIAN CONCERT FOR THE PARISH’S 75TH ANNIVERSARY

As part of the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Immaculate Conception Parish on December 13, 2025, a Marian Concert was held in honor of Mary Immaculate, gathering different choirs in a spirit of prayer and thanksgiving. Each participating choir rendered one worship song and one Marian song, offering their voices as a tribute to the Blessed Mother. The Laura Vicuña Girls, accompanied by Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, joyfully joined the Cathedral Choir, expressing through song their love, gratitude, joy, reverence, and trust in Mary. More than a musical presentation, their participation became a prayerful witness of how young people, when accompanied with love, are guided to offer their talents for God’s glory. Inspired by Blessed Laura Vicuña, the girls sang with simplicity and faith, placing their gifts at the feet of Mary Immaculate, Mother and Help of Christians.

A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH HOPE AT LVF

After participating in the New Year’s Eve Mass at the Cathedral at around 7:00 p.m., the Laura Vicuña Girls returned home with grateful hearts, carrying with them the grace of the Eucharist as they prepared to welcome the New Year. At around 10:00 p.m., they gathered at the chapel for a brief prayer, thanking God for the blessings and challenges of 2025 in a spirit of gratitude and forgiveness. In silence and song, they entrusted to the Lord all that had been, while opening their hearts to 2026 with hope and renewal, asking for grace to grow in faith, love, and responsibility. Following this prayerful pause, the girls joyfully prepared and shared a meal on the roof deck. Simple food, shared laughter, and heartfelt conversations strengthened their sense of community and belonging. As midnight drew near, they waited with excitement and anticipation, welcoming 2026 as they watched the magnificent fireworks light up the sky. Surrounded by joy, prayer, and togetherness, the Laura Vicuña Girls began the New Year with hopeful hearts—ready to embrace new beginnings and God’s unfolding plans.

SAFEGUARDING AS MISSION: A SALESIAN COMMITMENT OF HEALING, JUSTICE, AND HOPE

Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, actively participated in the Gathering on Safeguarding with the theme “Safeguarding: A Shared Mission of Healing, Justice and Hope,” held on December 8–10, 2025, at Maryhill Retreat House, Taytay, Rizal. The gathering brought together women and men religious from different Congregations who are directly engaged in apostolates with children, youth, and women at risk, whether in schools, communities, or parish settings. It became a sacred space of communion, listening, and collective commitment to safeguarding as a Gospel mandate and a concrete expression of consecrated life today.
In this significant ecclesial and social encounter, Sr. Phebe carried with her the lived experience and mission of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, presenting its Child Protection Program as a concrete and effective response to the urgent call to safeguard the vulnerable. She shared the best practices developed and implemented by the Foundation—rooted in prevention, education, accompaniment, and collaboration—highlighting how safeguarding is not merely a policy but a culture of care that transforms institutions and empowers persons. Strong emphasis was given to the Foundation’s advocacies to prevent abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and bullying, especially among children and young people at risk. A powerful highlight of her sharing was the launching and expansion of the “#iamBRAVE Movement” across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This movement, born from the heart of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, was presented as a prophetic initiative that gives voice to the voiceless and restores dignity to survivors. Its impact is seen not only in protection but in empowerment—forming children, youth, and women to become advocates themselves, capable of speaking out, protecting others, and breaking the cycle of silence and fear. The testimonies and outcomes shared revealed how the movement nurtures courage, self-worth, and hope, turning vulnerability into strength and mission. Sr. Phebe’s participation was received in a spirit of communion and discernment, as her sharing resonated with the shared concern of all present for the care and protection of the most vulnerable. In an atmosphere of trust and service, she was asked to assume the role of Head of the Commission on Protection, a responsibility welcomed in humility and entrusted to the help of Mary, Help of Christians. This moment is lived not as a personal acknowledgment but as a grace flowing from the collective journey of the Laura Vicuña Foundation, whose mission continues to be a quiet yet steadfast witness of healing, justice, and hope.

MERRY MONTH OF MAY

The month of May features grand festivities in the Philippines, a country deeply rooted in its Catholic faith, rich cultural traditions, and celebration. It’s often dubbed the “Merry Month of May” due to the abundance of vibrant festivals and events! The most prominent celebration this month is the Flores de Mayo (“Flowers of May”), a month-long tradition of offering beautiful flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary,  culminating in the spectacular Santacruzan. For the Salesian Sisters, the month of May holds immense significance: May 6- feast of St. Dominic Savio; May 9 Birthday of Mary Mazzarello, their co-founder; May 13-Feast of St. Mary Mazzarello; May 24- Feast of Mary Help of Christians-40th & 25th Silver Jubilee of Salesian Sisters, and May 31 is the feast of Our Lady’s Visitation to St. Elizabeth.

The 2025 Philippine elections, where our four girls exercised their right to vote, were a crucial process in democratic governance, shaping the legislative landscape and local leadership for the next three to six years, and reflecting the ongoing political dynamics and challenges in the country.
At LVF, we are blessed by these achievements:

After the session, the community participated in a brief reflection and written activity, enabling learners to internalize and express the insights they had gained. To culminate the two-day event, the social worker, together with Sr. Rose A. LVF’s AMAYZING MONTH

May is the fifth month of the year and is associated with joy and rebirth. It is painted with vibrant hues of blooming flowers, especially this Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May) and warmer days. Some define the month of May as ‘going or moving.’ As we move forward and remain at the forefront of child safety and prevention from violence, abuse, exploitation, and trafficking, LVF corresponds with the meaning and symbolism of this month.

It is a month of finding new paths; LVF Vice Pres., Mr. Francisco Dizon & LVF Trustee, Mrs Vicky Cuisia opening doors to LVF Malihao to the BPO world; it is a celebration of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, the announcements of the assignments of the Sisters, the successful medical mission conducted in collaboration with Veterans Memorial Hospital, the graduation of our two scholars, the commencement exercises of Malihao Senior High School, which were honored by the presence of the Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines, and the completion of OAP. These achievements are a testament to our dedication and inspire us to strive for more.

How aMAYzing it is to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth, to anticipate new experiences, and to witness God’s blessings in all their richness. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to move forward, and we hope this journey continues to inspire and motivate each of us.

At LVF, we are dedicated and passionate about inspiring others to dream, learn, do, and become more. This unwavering commitment is at the heart of our mission and values, and it is your support and involvement that drives us to make a profound and lasting impact. You are an integral part of our success.

KIKO: LVF PALAWAN SUCCESS STORY

Francisco Gabua, also known as “Kiko” Custodio, is the youngest child of Melchor and Elizabeth Gabua, who are farmers in Barangay Bagong Sikat, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. His father is currently our agricultural consultant, having earlier spearheaded the Organic Farming effort at the Laura Vicuña Foundation in Palawan.

Kiko completed his elementary and secondary education at UST Angelicum College through the REAP PROGRAM (Re-entry Education Agenda for the Poor), a branch of the UST Angelicum Home Study Program run by the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco and based on the Laura Vicuña Foundation’s Palawan location. He got his bachelor’s degree in agriculture at Western Philippines University and passed the Licensure Examination for Agriculturists.

Bishop Broderick Pabillo provided Kiko with a scholarship that allowed him to finish his studies. After graduation, he lived and worked with the children at the Laura Vicuña Foundation, Inc. Palawan, for two years, acting as the boys’ assistant and assistant farm manager.

He was one of the Organic Agriculture Production NCII trainers under the TESDA and ATI of the Laura Vicuña Foundation Inc. The values of the religious community he lived with always guided him, contributing to his growth and making him the person he is today—all thanks to the FMA sisters for molding him into a good fruit of the Salesian Family. Seeking to further his knowledge and experience, Kiko spent a year in Israel, participating in the Agrostudies Program.

With this opportunity, he increased his level of agricultural knowledge. Kiko is starting a new adventure in the US as an agriculturist. Although farming was not his first dream, it has shaped who he is now. Kiko understands that looking ahead might occasionally cause one to lose sight of opportunities in the here and now.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GRADUATION, JAZ & EM

May 30. LVF Scholars Ms. Jazlyn Narvadez & Ms. Desiree Ligutan graduated from Senior High School at Colegio de Sta—Ana de Victorias under the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand. For our two scholars, this marks a significant turning point. Following years of acclimating to blended learning, particularly during the pandemic, their diligence eventually paid off. Reaching yet another important life milestone.

“I never thought I could accomplish my education, given the challenges I faced and the pandemic. But mostly, I am grateful for LVF, especially Sr. Marivic, FMA, for being the wind beneath my wings. And above all, to the Lord God for sustaining me, us every day.” she said.

LAURA VICUNA FOUNDATION & VETERANS MEMORIAL MEDICAL HOSPITAL JOINT MEDICAL MISSION

May 12. More than one hundred twenty (120) children, adults, and elderly benefited from the Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) and Veterans Memorial Medical Hospital (VMMH) joint Medical Mission to LVF’s Child Protection Community in Brgy. Hillcrest, QC! They were provided with free consultations, prescriptions, medicines, and vitamins.

Before the activity, LVF Social workers Ms. Joy, Ms. Patricia, Ms. Angie, and Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA, made a courtesy call to the barangay captain and officials to plan and prepare the needed logistics.

The Medical Mission came at a perfect time because most kids had terrible colds, coughs, and other respiratory ailments. Conversely, older people often have not seen a doctor in a long time. The volunteer doctors and nurses have provided essential care within the community of Brgy. Hillcrest.

After completing their consultation, the recipients thanked the doctors, LVF, and its staff for reaching out to their community and expressed their satisfaction with the free vitamins and medications.

The Medical Mission was a success because of the collaboration of LVF, VMMH, and Brgy. Hillcrest. LVF is a partner community of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center-Family Medicine Department.

Ms. Sam, LVF Educator, celebrated this meaningful encounter for the second time. She said, “Indeed, our celebration of Gratitude Day is a testament to the power of community centered on God, and here, we can see the impact of continuing the Salesian Tradition. It strengthened our bond and renewed our commitment to the values guiding us daily.” Indeed, at LVF, we inhale gratitude and exhale love. The celebration of the annual Gratitude Day is a Salesian Tradition in which the community members prepare programs and food and treat the Animator to a feast to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all that she has done in the community and for the young people!

MARIAN MONTH OF CHILDREN
