YOUTHFEST 2025:”IAMBRAVE ROADTRIP”
Jan. 18—The MHCS youth have spoken, committing themselves to be BRAVE: Buddies Rejecting Abuse, Violence & Exploitation in today’s SYM Youth Festival at MHCS Mabalacat, Pampanga, in celebration of the 2025 YouthFest.
The LVF #iamBRAVE Roadtrip has reached MHCS Mabalacat, Pampanga, with two hundred seventy-five (275) students. Ms. Felina Narvaez, an FMA-FIL delegate and LVF staff member, shared her meaningful experience with the Salesian Youth Synod in Italy, which focuses on young people’s dreams.
In her welcome message, Sr. Marivic quoted Cardinal Artimé: “Hope in the testimony of mission is to be built between adults and young people from generation to generation: this is the way of the future.” This represents the beating heart that outlines the energies and opportunities for fulfilling and actualizing the “global dream” God inspired in Don Bosco’s evangelization and mission.
Ms. Josielyn Hugo discussed the Protective Behavior, while Ms. Jessa Mae Nardo tackled the Situation of Filipino Children. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, and one of the students asked, particularly about safe, unsafe, and confusing touches, “What if those touches have consent?” Ms. Josielyn Hugo explained that consent is essential, but it must come from someone of the right age and emotional maturity to understand its meaning entirely. She said that children and minors cannot give proper consent; thus, the law protects them from harm and exploitation. She added that even if consent exists, it should be at the right age and situation, like in marriage.
Sr. Marivic highlighted the significance of moral values, explaining that even if consensual, specific actions may be inappropriate for young people. The discussion explored the complexities of touch, especially given the Philippines’ touch-oriented culture, contrasting it with the increasing limitations on physical contact in a globalized world. The session educated students about safety, personal boundaries, and their rights.
Being able to recognize touches is to protect oneself from the possibility of abuse. This is one of the early warning signs, a significant component of protective behavior.
In the afternoon, Ms. Angie Mae Villaren and Ms. Rosea Marie Monsay facilitated the groupwork session. Four questions were prepared for the groups to discuss and answer: (1) What Are The Realities of Today’s Filipino Children; (2) In Your Opinion, What Are The Most Urgent Issues Of Young People That Needs Immediate Attention/Action; (3) What Are Your Dreams For A Better, Abuse-Free Society; (4) What Are Your Commitments In Promoting A Culture Of Protection As BUDDIES?
The participants’ answers showed a common thread: that young people, though tech-savvy and smart, are emotionally sensitive, that the downside of their exposure to social media is that they became less sensitive and less aware of what is happening around them, and that technology detaches them from the present. Furthermore, young people are often victims of cyberbullying.
This reality leads to mental health issues among young people; they see this as the most urgent issue that needs to be addressed. According to them, young people easily snap. They lack grit and resilience when faced with difficulties and challenges. Another troubling issue that they pointed out is teenage pregnancy, for it restricts their opportunities in life and forces them to mature at a young age, stripping them of their childhood.
For an abuse-free community, the young people hope for a safe community where people are not afraid to speak and open up, they long for a community that hears and listens to the young…open-minded…respecting and encouraging regardless of one’s background, grounded in trust, and, importantly, where adults are responsible guides to the young. In the end, the young people have committed to protecting the vulnerable, not engaging in violence or crime, not abusing anyone, and doing their best to promote a no-bullying community.

The Feast of Laura Vicuna is doubly meaningful as the LVWDTC Malihao closes its year-long silver anniversary celebration! There was a celebration of the Holy Mass presided by Fr. Jimmy Carmona, SDB, followed by a unique short play entitled “Give Your Dreams to Mary.” The play reminded everyone that while the path to one’s dreams is full of challenges, surrendering them to the Lord and seeking the Blessed Mother’s intercession helps keep one on the right path. The talented dancers and actors, guided by Sir Darrenz Caberoy (choreographer) and Sir Kenneth John Cornelio (character rehearsals), gave a memorable performance. In addition, the event marked the start of the inter-school activities, with participating schools from Victorias National High School—Canetown Extension, Abelardo DL Bantug Sr. National High School, and Barangay Estado National High School. The friendly competitions included basketball, volleyball, and board games, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. It was a day full of faith, fun, and community spirit.

FEAST OF THE SALESIAN SAINTS: ST. JOHN BOSCO & BL. LAURA VICUNA
ST. JOHN BOSCO: GIFT TO THE YOUNG!
Jan. 25, Palawan. The learners and the Salesian Sisters received the sacrament of confession in the parish church in preparation for the Feast of St. John Bosco. Having a confession before the feast is a great blessing for several reasons, as it considers emphasis on the sacraments, particularly confession and the Eucharist. It includes Spiritual preparation as St. Joh Bosco was deeply devoted to the salvation of the souls, especially of the young, and often encouraged frequent confession to stay close to God. Confession also brings forgiveness and grace, helping to cleanse the soul of sin and strengthen one’s commitment to holiness.

HAPPY FEAST OF BL. LAURA VICUÑA
Jan. 22. Annually, the LVF communities, Cubao, Palawan, Malihao, and other FMA communities, celebrate the feast of Bl. Laura Vicuña. Laura Vicuña’s life is a testimony of purity, faith, and courage despite the abuse and advances made to her by her stepfather, the sacrifice she made for the renewal and the salvation of her mother from sin at the age of barely thirteen (13). With Laura’s experience, virtues, and the way she lived her life, she is honored as a patroness of young people, specifically of abused girls. Palawan. Mahalaga pa ba ang kabanalan sa panahon natin ngayon?; d) Paano mo mapapalaganap sa mga kabataan ang langit?
- )What is the kingdom of God? How would you spread it to others? b.) How can you show and imitate Bl. Laura Vicuna in your life? c.) Is holiness still important in our day? d.) How would you encourage young people to spread the Good News and heaven?]
And the winning piece was from Nica “Mula noon hanggang ngayon, hindi nagbabago ang pangako ng Diyos sa atin, dahil ang Diyos lamang ang makakaalam kung saan tayo patungo at Siya lamang ang daan papunta sa tamang landas.” (“From then on until now, God’s promise to us has not changed, because only God knows where we are going and He is the only way to the right path.”)
