CHILDREN’S MONTH CELEBRATION
In celebration of Children’s Month in November, the Laura Vicuna Foundation collaborated with its partner agency, the Western Philippines University (WPU) from the College of Education. Together, they orchestrated a series of enriching activities for the young individuals at the center under the theme: “Enhancing Mental Health Awareness through Sports, Music, and Dance.” On November 15, teachers, and student volunteers from WPU joined the community to impart their expertise. They engaged the learners in learning the intricacies of “Speak takraw” and “Arnis,” fostering physical activity and sportsmanship. Later in the month, on November 30, the focus shifted to cultural expression as the students were taught the dance steps of the Cuyonon song “Solteros.” Subsequent sessions on December 1 and 7 centered around music and instrument tutorials. These multifaceted activities were strategically designed to involve children in sports and skills development, providing an avenue to mitigate mental health issues, stress, and depression—particularly crucial during these challenging times. The initiative aimed not only to promote physical well-being but also to uncover and nurture hidden talents and skills among the young participants. The Laura Vicuna Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated teachers and student volunteers from WPU, Puerto Princesa City, for their unwavering commitment to supporting and educating the youth. Their efforts have not only enriched the lives of these young individuals but have also contributed significantly to the holistic well-being of the community.
